CBC INTERVIEW OF THE FIRST CLIMATE JUSTICE SIT-IN
Do you want to take direct action in Canada for climate justice? See the pages linked on the right side of this blog for action planning resources.
Help build the grassroots movement in Canada for climate justice and tip the scales of power back towards community and ecological sustainability by engaging in acts of civil disobedience in the days leading up to Copenhagen, probably the most important climate summit of our times.
This is a call out for people to organize sit-ins and occupations in Canada targeting elected officials, tar sands financiers, and destructive industries in the days before the climate change treaty negotiations in Copenhagen.
THE TIME IS NOW.
The Canadian government continues to fail to address the climate crisis. They continue to stall while millions die or become displaced due to the climate crisis and have prioritized destructive projects like the tar sands over the fate of our planet and the health of our communities.
There is no more time for excuses!
We can no longer allow our government to wait, stall, or block progress instead we must pressure them to act and push for a just, ambitious, and binding deal that listens to science and is led by the voices of Indigenous communities and those most directly impacted by the climate crisis.
Last month over 100 different cities stood up and took action to push Canada to stand up for climate justice. They were joined by millions of people in over 5,000 locations urging government to act yet these calls continue to fall on deaf ears.
It’s time to step up the pressure and take direct action to make sure Canada does the right thing in Copenhagen.
TAKE ACTION IN 3 EASY STEPS…
1) Choose an elected official in Canada with a poor record on dealing with
climate change, a CEO of a destructive industry that is escalating
the climate crisis, or a CEO of one of the institutions that is
helping to finance it.
2) Recruit your friends.
3) Organize a peaceful sit-in or occupation targeting the
individual and join the world wide movement pushing for climate
