Update on legal situation of Flaherty protestors
From Janet….
“I took part in the peaceful occupation of federal finance minister Jim Flaherty’s office last Nov. 30th. We were charged with Loiter and Obstruct Persons in Public Place; Mischief – Obstruct/Interrupt/Interfere with Lawful Use/Enjoyment or Operation of Property (both criminal code offences), & Fail to Leave Premises (under the Trespass to Property Act).
The two Criminal Code charges were dropped & we pled guilty to the third, more minor offence. As mentioned in the other post, we’re being fined $100 and will be on probation for a year.
I decided to write a letter to the judge who sentenced us, since I felt too nervous to speak up in court. I’ll be sure to let her know that I’m not only not ashamed of my actions, but very proud of them, & would encourage others to take similar action. As another protester said, we need more people to step outside their customary comfort zone!”
Now on to the next ACTION.
